Walk Like MADD

Post  orley29 on Sun Sep 25, 2011 8:57 am

On June 11th of this year, my older brother was hit and killed by a drunk driver at a ROT rally in Austin. He was on his motorcycle and was taking a girl back to her room because the man she came to the rally with was drunk and unsafe for her to ride with. He was killed instantly but she survived with multiple broken bones and bruises. Yesterday, my family participated in the first annual MADD walk in Lumberton. It was a great way to honor our brother and many others who were taken from us at the hands of a impaired driver. We had a great turn out and it was alot of fun. Its on the KFDM website as they covered the event. I have never really been a fan of MADD because of some hypocritical things that have gone on within the actual organization, but I know this local chapter is genuine. They do alot of good work and their heart is in the right place. We will have another walk next year and Im already looking forward to it. Its alot of work, but if the money we raise just saves ONE life or even just raises awareness, then I feel better already. Pray for my family. This is a hard thing to deal with and we are still in the healing process.

Wow Orley, I never even heard about it. Crying or Very sad That's ashame, because I most certainly would have done my best to show my support. Yesterday was a crazy busy day for me, but I would have rearranged something to fit it all in. I know a few folks that are involved in the local chapter.

So sorry to hear this. I know the pain you are suffering is really hard right now. Keep involved and just maybe you can reach someone and change how they feel about drinking and driving. Bless you and your family Orley.
