BEAUMONT - The owner of a well known furniture store in Beaumont has closed his doors, a victim, said Hadley Cohen, of the national economic downturn and a dramatic increase in overhead.
Hadley's Furniture closed its doors on Dowlen Road around the middle of last week. Nearly 40 employees lost their jobs
"As of today, we're no longer in business," Hadley Cohen told KFDM News. "We closed the store with dignity and honor. All of our employees got paid. All of the taxes due were taken care of."
Cohen said he did everything he could to help his customers.
"We made every human effort possible to make sure our customers were taken care of," said Cohen.
He cited a couple of factors that led to the closure.
"We had to leave Calder for an area of Beaumont that increased my monthly overhead about four times. The national economic downturn has been atrocious."
Cohen thanks his customers and the community for allowing him to serve Southeast Texas.
"We served this community honorably for ten years," said Cohen. "If a charitable organization needed help, we donated. It's just unfortunate we couldn't continue."
