Update: Lake Charles man dies after jumping from Veterans Memorial Bridge

A Lake Charles man died Wednesday after he jumped from the Veterans Memorial Bridge at about 9 p.m.

Port Arthur police say the 33-year-old man survived the jump but drowned before Port Arthur Fire Rescue Units could reach him.

Justice of the Peace Brad Burnett ordered an autopsy, according to a news release from the Port Arthur Police Department.
