The third-party wild card

Will there be a third party candidate? if so, let me just say I smell a rat. Call me paranoid but it seems like these third party candidates are the ones that usually allow the dems to win. How come we never see a third party democrat that syphons votes from the democrats? Also, the reporter for this opinion piece also thinks Obama could beat the top three republicans. I'm not a huge fan of this top three but I think not.
